What is Mumble?
"Mumble is a voice chat application for groups. While it can be used for any kind of activity, it is primarily intended for gaming. It can be compared to programs like Ventrilo or TeamSpeak. People tend to simplify things, so when they talk about Mumble they either talk about "Mumble" the client application or about "Mumble & Murmur" the whole voice chat application suite."

(We would like to add that it's something like Skype for groups.)

What is Murmur?
"Murmur" is the name of the server application. In any case, if anyone talks about Murmur it is for sure the server part. "

So we will be talking about Mumble: the client application.

Is it save?

Mumble is Free Software, this isn't the same as 'freeware software', so pay attention, no spyware/adware and it's not owned by some big corporation, but it's owned by all of us. "Your whole communication to and from the server is always encrypted. This encryption is mandatory and cannot be disabled. The so-called control channel, which transports your chat messages and other non-time critical information, is encrypted with TLS using 256 bit AES-SHA. The voice channel carrying speech and positional audio is encrypted with OCB-AES 128 bit. You and the server authenticate to each other using digital certificates like they are used for secured connections in Web-browsers."

The calendar system has been updated to the latest version. Everybody can now post their events to our site after you register / login to the site.

Click on 'New' in the top menu and then on 'Event'.

Provide a title, description and a start and end date and possible an extra link to more information.

You can also add media in the media block below the body field, this can for example be a youtube clip or livestream recording.

Events are also posted to our Twitter, so everybody that follows us, gets an update.

If you experience problems, contact us via the contact form linked in the menu.

REINSTALL MUMBLE

Due to an expiring certificate in the Mumble client people are experiencing issues while starting Mumble and / or connecting to the Mumble server the Mumble client needs to be updated.

You need a CLEAN INSTALL.

This means: UNINSTALL MUMBLE

Then

Download the new Mumble from here: http://mumble.info/fix/mumble-1.2.3a.msi

Start Mumble and login to the server.

Sorry about this, we just got the information ourselves, but all should be fine after you have uninstalled and reinstalled the Mumble client.

How to connect to our server

First:

Download the Mumble client for your computer / mobile here:

Second:

Install Mumble as you do with any other program and be sure to run/finish the 'Audio Wizard' when you start Mumble for the first time.
Please select a 'Push To Talk button' when running the 'Audio Wizard', else in a room with 50 people it will possibly lead up to feedback or worse.

Third:

Ok now, that's all set, let's connect to the server, options:

Option 1:

Add the server to the connect dialog yourself.

In Mumble click on: Server > Connect > Add new.

Label: OccupyTalk
Address: occupytalk.org
Port: 64738
Username: Choose a username / alias you want or the username you used to register on the website.

Now click 'Ok' and double click on the server name to connect.
You will be asked to accept our self-signed certificate (just select 'Yes') and now you are on the server.

Done!

Option 2: THIS DOES NOT WORK AT THE MOMENT > WIP.

Search for the server on the public server list, the machine itself is located in Germany, so open up Germany and search for OccupyTalk.org. (takes a couple of seconds to load the list)

Option 3:

Click HERE to connect (you need to install Mumble before this can work at all)

Useability tips:

- In Mumble, click Configure and the click (ones) on Text-To-Speech. This will disable the Mumble client reading the chat out loud.

- You can also disable all other sounds by going to 'Configure > Settings > check the 'Advanced' box at the bottom left > Messages.
Now disable all sounds you want to, it's a good advice to disable the soundfile for 'Text Message' at the bottom, else when you are speaking for a longer period of time and you have speakers, instead of a headset, the notifications can be a problem, it will feed back into the microphone.

Most of the times when there are people online, someone will jump right in there with you to help out on microphone or overpowering-issues. <<<
